Hallelujah Lyrics Song By Leonard Cohen
According to some interpretations, Cohen is in an argument with God. The book of Psalms says of King David's "Hallelujah" that he pleases the Lord. Cohen addressed God: "But you don't really care about music, do you?"
For others, we talk about the evolution of relationships through a metaphor that combines sex and religion.
Cohen originally wrote about 80 verses of the song, and used a different selection of verses in the original recording and 1988 live performances.
The song was not very popular when it first appeared. However, it was covered by John Kell in 1991 for a tribute album. He used modified lyrics based on Cohen's 1988 live version. Jeff Buckley listened to Kyle's version and covered his 1994 album Grace. Buckley's version became the most popular recording of the song.
Since then, the song has been covered more than 300 times. Today it is a symbol and figure among the many movie soundtracks and television shows. It became a modern standard. Many versions change the lyrics, especially the Christian version which reduces all ambiguity of the song.
Verse 1: Hallelujah Lyrics
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing "Hallelujah"
Chorus: Hallelujah Lyrics
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Verse 2: Hallelujah Lyrics
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Chorus: Hallelujah Lyrics
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Verse 3: Hallelujah Lyrics
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to ya?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Chorus: Hallelujah Lyrics
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Verse 4: Hallelujah Lyrics
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool ya
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the lord of song
With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah
Chorus: Hallelujah Lyrics
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Outro: Hallelujah Lyrics
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
